George W. Dowden, known to everybody in this section, died at his home on the N. side of the creek at Bluff Mills on Sun. evening. He has been sick for several weeks. he was the son of Nathaniel and Theodosia Dowden and was born March 26, 1845. He has spent his entire life in this County, mostly in the neighborhood in which he died. His first wife was Julia Ann Hardee to whom he was married Sept 13, 1868. Their six living children are Mrs. Lillie Keller of Manteno, Ill,; Joseph S. Dowden and Mrs. Frank Scott of Chicago; Bert and Walter Dowden of Crawfordsville; and Mrs. Pearl Long of Brazil. Sept 24, 1917, he married Mary Mooreman who survives him. Mr. Dowden was a man of striking appearance and bore his more than 80 years well. He was of a dignified but friendly disposition, and will be missed by his neighbors and by the summer visitors who have been coming to Bluff Mills. Funeral services were held at Freedom Church on Tuesday morning with interment in the neighboring Cemetery.
